Caisson’s HEPboost® technology enables vaccine designers and gene delivery engineers to substantially improve delivery efficiency to immune cells in addition to avoiding potential safety and tolerability liabilities of existing delivery technologies.
Unlike the basic HEPtune ‘stealth’ technology where the body ‘ignores’ the HEP-modified therapeutic to allow longer half-lives, HEPboost harnesses our recent discovery that high-density heparosan nanoparticle coatings selectively enhance uptake by immune cells. Nanoparticles coated with HEPboost are internalized by dendritic cells and macrophages with 50- to 230-fold higher efficiency than the commonly employed PEG coating (used in COVID-19 vaccines). Furthermore, proteins do not avidly stick to the heparosan coating thus avoiding unwanted interactions.
